Who was she…?
She was a nobody…
Her name wasn’t even worth mentioning.
And what she did made those present very angry! And they scolded her for what she had done.
But Jesus understood…
He knew who she was and what she was doing and what she was thinking. Even though what she did didn’t make sense to anyone else there.
She walked in unannounced with something of extreme value. And then she broke it and dumped it all out over Jesus’ head.
What an extreme waste! Think of what they could have done with all of that expensive oil! All of the people they might have helped if they had been able to sell it! And why dump it all out over this man’s head when the religious leaders were plotting his demise and he would be dead and buried in less than a week? What a waste!
But Jesus understood…
And so He protected her and gave her shelter from the scoffing (see Psalm 91).
And then He lifted her up from her lowly position and exalted her above all the rest, saying that what she had done was beautiful and that people would always hear of what she had done – for as long as people spoke of Him!
She didn’t enter the room with that in mind though. She entered the room desiring only to honor Jesus with her actions, despite what anyone else might think. And despite who she was.
And she succeeded.
And Jesus – only Jesus – understood…
But we can understand now too! The light of God is shining into our lives, by the Holy Spirit, and because of Jesus Christ. If you would only let His light shine in…
Confess your sins to Him.
Accept His forgiveness and His mercy towards you.
And then live your life for Him.
Only Jesus can offer you eternal life with God.
He won’t fix all of your issues or clean up all of your messes…
And your life will not make any sense to many, many people.
But Jesus will always understand…
